Late-season blooms and foliage
Yvonne is sharing her garden with us again today .
My garden was antecedently feature in the GPOD(Yvonne ’s Garden in VirginiaandYvonne ’s Woodland and Japanese Inspired Gardens ) . I garden in Zone 7a in Northern Virginia . This garden is five eld old , and we take off from a clean ticket . We have spent the past five eld removing scrub , bamboo , poison ivy , andinvasivegrasses and developing distinctgarden spaces . Today I ’m sharing some pictures of fall in the garden this year . Most of the pictures are from thewoodlandand mini - meadow , which I designed and largely constitute myself ( with the exception of thetrees ) . My goal is to create soothing spaces with lots of textural interest .
At the entry into the woodland garden are European beech hedge(Fagussylvatica , Zones 4–7 ) depict its caramel fall colour , chicken ‘ Hearts of Gold ’ redbud(Cerciscanadensis‘Hearts of Gold ’ , Zones 5–9 ) radiance , redViburnumdilatatum(Zones 4–7 ) to the leftover , Japanese maples(Acer palmatum , Zones 5–9 ) in the foreground , and willow oak(Quercus phellos , Zones 5–9 ) color in scandalmongering in the desktop .

Viburnum dilatatumhas striking leaves and blood-red berries .
Aster tataricus(Zones 3–9 ) in the meadow is game bySchizachyrium scoparium‘Standing Ovation ’ ( zone 3–9 ) andMiscanthus‘Morning lightness ’ ( Zones 5–9 ) .
The side yard hasAmsoniahubrichtii(Zones 5–8 ) , nativeViburnum nudum‘Winterthur ’ ( zone 5–9 ) , and evergreen ‘ Green Giant ’ arborvitae(Thuja‘Green Giant ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , withCryptomeriajaponica(Zones 5–9 ) in the background .

Miscanthus‘Scout’,Iteavirginica(Zones 5–9 ) , andStachysbyzantina(Zones 4–8 ) form a nice textural dividing line .
Chrysanthemum‘Brandywine ’ ( zone 5–9 )
Tricyrtis‘Sinonome ’ ( geographical zone 5 – 8) is still going strong .

Ilexverticillata‘Red Sprite ’ ( Zones 3–9 )
