“ These preceding two week have been nerve - racking with the fire getting so close to our farm , ” says Brent Hilton of California Peony Company . “ We were especially worried about last Friday , as strong wind from the South West charge were augur , meaning that the fire would be pushed even nigh to us . We had to take precautions on our theatre , but as luck would have it the flowers were untouched . ”“You can see some white light down in the Tree at the bottom , that is where our property is , ” says Hilton . Cutting peonies downIn order to contract the fire fuel in the field , Hilton has been cut the paeony down . “ We were disturbed that the fires would make it even nigher and strain our property . Our main fear for the peony field was the 14 miles of drip tube we have through the peony rows . The root word would have likely been fine under the ground , but the drip tubing would have well melted by . We made a huge investing in our irrigation arrangement , so the priority was to trim back back all the plant in the field to lower the fuel subject matter . Fortunately , the plants were already almost done with their cycle for this class , so fortunately this did n’t interfere much with our production . Surviving the firesOn Friday , September 17 , strong winds were predicted that would push the fire even closer to California Peony Company ’s orbit . “ While the fire got dangerously close to us , we were extremely fortunate that we made it through without it reach out our dimension .
