A great display despite dry weather
Today we ’re shoot another stumble back in time to gardens at their summertime apex . This fourth dimension it ’s with Linda Skyler , who sent in these photos of her Bainbridge Island garden in Washington State . She says that they had a lovely warm summertime , but a dry one . Despite the dry conditions , her garden bet middling amazing , something she credits to her thick mulch , which conserves moisture and solves a hatful of smoke problems .
An imposing clump ofLigularia‘The skyrocket ’ ( zone 4–8 ) . This perennial — with its vast , beautifully erose leave — sends up these huge spikes of xanthous flower than can hit 5 feet . produce best in nerveless , lightly shaded circumstance , this is a high play plant !
An tremendous pottedhosta(possibly the variety ‘ Sum and Substance ’ , Zones 3–8 ) catches the sunshine and looks like it is glowing . brilliant , yellow - green flora like these are a groovy way to clear up a obscure , shady spot .

A brilliant orangish Asiatic lily ( Liliumhybrid , Asian group , Zones 4–9 ) glow against a backdrop of rich Green River . The tall foliage in the background ishoney bush(Melianthusmajor , Zones 8–12 ) .
It is amazing how much coloring material you may get from just hostas , here showing dispirited - unripe leaves contrast starkly with white-livered and white variegated selections . fern allow an bring layer of textural demarcation .
Nothing says summertime like hydrangeas ! Here a Brobdingnagian bigleaf hydrangea ( Hydrangeamacrophylla , Zones 6–9 ) is just loaded down with bloom .
