Yesterday , I provide my Maryland plate , where it was rainy and grey and about 36 point F , wearing a waterproof , line coat , baseball mitt and scarf . In my geographical zone 7 garden , my snowdrops are blooming , the maple are budded and the daffodil are showing their fleeceable foliage – about 2- to 3 - inch in height . My flight stopped first in Detroit where the basis from above was livid , since they have a cover of snow there . Next stop was Saint Louis , Missouri and we landed amongst swirling snow , they were give a snowfall squall just for us , so we had to Diamond State - crank . terminal finish , Little Rock , we derive over chocolate-brown fields and trees that prove new green growth . springtime has sprung here !
My gardening booster , Tina Marie Wilcox , picked me up in a double - cab , pick - up motortruck pulling a laggard full of plants and band - up for a booth at the Arkansas River Valley Lawn & Garden Show in Fort Smith . As we drove down the main road , I noted how the daffodils are in full bloom , pansy displays abound and tree diagram are budded and set out to flick out . When we block off for lunch , I had to take off my leaden jumper and move around the remainder of the trip in my shirtsleeves . Although we have n’t yet reached the vernal equinoctial point , which is March 20 this year , spring is certainly in the melodic line .

And what better way to drop it ? If you ca n’t be in the garden ( mine was much too wet to mire about in ) , why not visit one of the garden shows chance across the nation ? The Fort Smith show really is n’t very crowing , however it is full of local folks and we all have the same thing in common : horticulture . The amazing thing about this show is that it is put on by the Arkansas River Valley Master Gardeners – and what a radical they are . I have enjoyed work with Master Gardeners all over the U.S. , however this is one of the most enterprising , tireless and fun groups I have intercourse . It is like coming back to see old friends – and not only that – they feed all of the vendors during the show . I love that they arrive with pots of soup , chile , stew , salads and sandwich , not to mention dessert !
Today is the set - up day and as hand truck and trailers and vans arrive , the ARVMG adjoin the vehicle and cheerfully help us unload . It is fun to walkabout and see all the seller go under up – sort of like old home week . I already put aside a rattling planter , which is a foliate brass embed with succulent and cacti . There is everything here from small showing garden , outdoor buildings , rainbarrels , garden ornamentation , clayware , garden hats and tools , books , a flower show , local garden - related orgnizations and business , and more .
Besides selling and spill the beans about herbaceous plant , I will be giving lectures along with a number of other featured speakers , who will utter on subjects from generation to hypertufa . you may go onlinewww.fsgardenshow.comand look at the schedule . I will be speaking on Saturday : Sow Your Own Herbs;Sunday : Herbal Blendsand with Tina Marie Wilcox onElder , Herb of the Year 2013.So issue forth on out , get inspired and celebrate the root of a young gardening time of year !

Next stop is the Ozark Folk Center where I will teach a three - day class “ herb Hands - On ! ” for the folkschool academic session this year and then the Medicinal Herb Seminar and Hike with Rosemary Gladstar and Steven Foster . suss out out these event atwww.ozarkfolkcenter.com .
