My roosters Mr. Mabel and Mr. Molly get along great — until springtime .
The peak are all flower on my prop : huge pink and livid flower on my cactus , violet and chicken starburst on the native plants around the M . But the most manifest preindication of spring for me is the doings of my roosters , Mr. Molly andMr . Mabel .
buddy hatched from the same clutch , these two guys usually get along really well . Mr. Mabel is the dominant roo , and it ’s not surprising . He is peremptory , tatty and very opinionated . Mr. Molly , on the other hand , is sweet and lay back . He seems happy to melt into the desktop while Mr. Mabel launch the show . That is , until spring comes .
The worry normally starts around March , when the hens start lay egg again after a winter break . Mr. Molly , who ordinarily just wanders around with the flock like one of the hen ( except for his dayspring shuffling dances and cluck when he findssomething honorable to eat ) , begins to get romantic . He starts pay more tending to the hen until finally , one day , he attempt to copulate with one of them .
This is when Mr. Mabel kicks into high gear . If he project the peccadillo , he run at Mr. Molly and the adulterous hen and go after his brother all around the yard . If Mr. Molly retreats , all turns out well in the end . Mr. Mabel , satisfied with the chase , period and walks away , surefooted that he has made is vindicated that pair with the hen is his privilege only .
The problem starts when Mr. Molly refuse to back down .
This pass off every yr . So far , it has n’t pass off yet , but I ’m wait .
When Mr. Molly decides to “ flip the bird ” at Mr. Mabel , things can get wretched . The two brothers originate press , just like roosters do in movies that sport cockfighting . They smack and nipper at each other with such violence , rip promptly begin to flow .
The only manner I ’ve regain I can break up up one of these fighting is to turn the hose on them . When both rooster are completely drench with water , they blockade fighting . If the struggle was n’t decide , it ’s only a matter of time before it starts up again . In the destruction , I ’ve constitute that I just have to allow them work it out , hoping neither one gets seriously hurt .
It ’s the beginning of May now , and so far , the two are get along . I did see Mr. Molly sneak one in the other day with one of theJos . Mr. Mabel watch it and chased him off . Mr. Molly pull in one’s horns , as he should . I can only hope his cowardliness keep on .
