When the Mid-Atlantic region’s largest annual gardening event moved outdoors, it was better than ever
ThePennsylvania Horticultural Society(PHS ) has host thePhiladelphia Flower Showsince 1829 . Traditionally held indoors in former March at the Pennsylvania Convention Center , the show was go outdoors in 2021 to historic Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park and took place in other June . The new venue undoubtedly created a more relaxed vibe for the weeklong show .
The activities and display were divided into four area of interest : the Plant District , the Garden District , the Design District , and the PHS Gardener ’s Grove . Each area had alone horticultural display showcasing garden designs , specimen plant displays , and floral agreement .
The Design District , the orotund and most artistically appeal area , housed display gardens created by some of the dependable party and individuals in theMid - Atlantic region . Wambui Ippolito , an East African horticulturist establish in New York , took home the in demand Best in Show cup . Mark Cook Landscape and Contractingtook home the 2d - shoes laurels with their showing , “ Intertwined . ” This exhibit contained beautiful vertical component , with street art murals as a backdrop . Though it was not formal , the designer created an informal quad with a courtyard patio leading to an industrial - style planter filled with ewer plants ( Sarraceniaspp . , Zones 4–8 ) .
Donald Pell Gardenstook home a fluent medallion with a simple yet elegant exhibit . The garden surround a table to imitate a garden party , with a beautifully set tabular array include . Pell ’s pick of plants included ‘ Roma ’ masterwort ( Astrantiamajor‘Roma ’ , Zones 4–7 ) , fingerleaf rodgersia ( Rodgersiaaesculifolia , Zones 5–8 ) , and Chinese earth orchid ( Bletilla striata , Zones 5–9 ) , along with many other interesting industrial plant .
Overall , the first ever out-of-door Philadelphia Flower Show was a achiever . The exhibit were prima , and the atmosphere create an excitement around garden everyone seemed to enjoy .
