Long ago , in a January , far , far away … Ipostedon my melon vine pit experimentation .
Now it ’s come to fruition . Literally .

prissy , eh ?
Of course , the original approximation was that the rot wood would supply wet , while the manure and compost provided nutrition for the growing vines .
The nutrition part has worked out well . I ’ve receive about 8 watermelon vines sprawl across the front yard quite happily . However , the moisture part ca n’t be figured out . I have n’t watered this summer since we ’ve had more rain than I ever call back see . The “ hugelkultur ” bit of this experiment is therefore inconclusive .

Another affair : the weeds get away from me on the melon pits . The plain , amply feed primer coat was too much for the grass . It jumped in a lilliputian while after the melon vine sprung out , and now thanks to the rambling vine , weeding is almost impossible . Oh well – count like we ’re still going to have some great melons . We ’ve already corrode one ( it was a delicious 6.5 lb baby ) , and there are at least six more in the grounds right now , growing on top of the “ lawn . ”
Now that ’s the way a front grand should be !
