' T ' budding is the preferred method for ingraft tangerine tree tree and is in the main done to unite worthy fruit - bearing calibre of one type of tangerine to the disease resistant and hardy understock of another citrus Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . This is performed by taking a springy bud from one tree and implanting it into the root stock or ' understock ' of the other . Step 1

tuck a bud stick from the former season ’s growth and up to 1/2 inch in diameter from the desire tangerine tree tree . insure the stick has several bud nodes on it .

Step 2

withdraw the bud stick from the tree and clip off any leaves . enwrap the branch in a damp cloth or sphagnum moss to keep it moist . target the bud stick in a formative bag and store it in the icebox until needed .

Remove a bud to be grafted from the branch by turn off under the bud . start the cutting around 1/2 column inch below the base of the bud and slice upward , ending 1/2 in above it . Trim the top edge of the bud ’s bark public square to form a little shield soma .

Step 5

Step 6

Insert the pointed part of the bud ’s bark into the ' deoxythymidine monophosphate ' so that slides under the bark of the understock Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . Slide the bud in until the top of the shield meets the crown of thorns cut in the ' T ' .

Step 7

Wrap the trunk with rubber banding strips to hold the bud in place . Do not cover the bud .

Step 8

Check the bud after two weeks to see if the grafting has taken . The bud should remain inactive until next spring .

Step 9

As the bud starts to grow , swerve off the blood above it . Remove any shoot sent out by the root word gillyflower to encourage the new bud to grow .
