Galanthus elwesii var. monostictus ‘Hiemalis’

It is a lovely sunny , daylight ; inhuman but crisp . There is still   not much out in the garden though . Prunus mume‘Beni - chidori ’ is testify pink but not yet open .

Prunus x subhirtella‘Autumnalis rosea ’ pig-headedly refuses to open up its delicate pink blossom . The witch hazels are just showing the midget bit of colour . But I do n’t mind because these joy are still to come . For now I have this lovely snowdrop with the impossible name to enjoy .

The name does n’t fall trippingly off the lingua I ’m afraid , but at least it is one of my wood anemone which still has a recording label . Some of the others in their journeying from garden to garden have mislay their label . Many others have had their label slip by malicious squirrel . I ca n’t imagine what they require them for . I do n’t presuppose they do desire them really . It ’s pure maliciousness . Anyway I have my book which is invaluable for the next month or two . It is expensive but for the serious galanthophile it is very useful . it is called‘Snowdrops . AMonograph of Cultivated Galanthus ’ . It is written   by Matt Bishop , Aaron Davies and John Grimshaw . In the weeks to come I will be spend many an hr outside with my Word of God peering up Anemone quinquefolia ’ skirts and look the green spots .

If the snowdrop bible and I are at a personnel casualty I shall be asking snowdrop unbalanced bloggers for help . The trouble about not being sure of the names of your snowdrops is that you find yourself buying the same snowdrop double . And that ’s a very expensive misapprehension to make .

Thank you for visiting my blog , Chloris , which have me to find yours . I love it ! I adore snowdrops , and yours are so pretty , but my Pennsylvania I do n’t seem until late March ! Oh , how I miss England . bid you a happy New Year ! P. x

My autumn flowering cherry was tardily this yr Chloris but has been blossom for a couple of weeks now . Mind you the north west is usually milder than the E . I was the lucky recipient of a gift of the ‘ snowdrop bible ’ a few years ago , which I consort is an fantabulous reference of data although some of the content floats over my head . Somewhat less expensive I ’ve also more of late bought Gunter Waldorf ’s ‘ wood anemone ’ , which I think is a great little introduction to the study . I ’ve also bought the same snowdrop twice but I ’ve only got myself to blame for escape labels :) I may well be asking for help when it comes to snowdrop identity too .

I only have a few snowdrops in my garden but have n’t find any in flower yet , I shall have to go outside and have a poke around when the rain break .
