Did you ever come across something like this …

So … here ’s the question : can you eat beetle larva ?
It ’s really hard to respond this head across the plank . Through a serial publication of scattershot searches , I at first opinion I nailed down this pup as being an infantHylotrupes bajulus , also fuck as the “ old - home borer . ”
However , according tothis land site , the quondam - house rock drill only fertilize on true pine . This one was found in a decayed oak tree . This is probably good for my region , since the honest-to-god - house rock drill will also use up house thataren’told .
With a little further expect , it seems this guy has to be in the same sept as the old - mansion stone drill : Cerambycidae
But … again … is it tasty ?

It seems Julia Child once served up this coinage . And , if you keep digging , the rabbit hole proceed deeper . At one point , McDonald ’s was patently serving beetle chow :
I imagine those “ fries ” are healthier than the original recipe , though I ca n’t vouch for the look .

Totally secure to eat ? I just do n’t know … but it ’s awing what you learn from the internet . Chances this insolent bug infant is edible – many grubs are .
The only way to recognize is to eat it .
Yet … though I was truly influence to fire up the frypan , I felt sorry for this grub and go down it free . Besides , I would ’ve needed about five more for tiffin .
One day it will believably grow huge and menace some desert , like in Dune .
Or it will just mature into a harmless mallet . But probably the former .
