The Beefalo has been around for quite some time . Back in the recent 1880s , several early pioneer take in the hardiness of the bison as a very positive trait but also want the teachable nature of the domestic moo-cow .

What Is a Beefalo?

A common misconception about the Beefalo is that it ’s half moo-cow and half bison . Those animals , however , are bison hybrids , also call Cattalo .

The USDA recognizes a fullblood Beefalo as turn back 37.5 percent bison or3⁄8 bison . Various tame cattle breed are selected for suitable quality to make the remaining5⁄8 heritage . Through all the crossing that was done to produce the stock , it was determined that this was the sweet spot , allowing all the good lineament of both animals to be present .

When you cover bison with domestic cattle , females from that interbreeding leaven to be prolific most of the time . Male , however , do not . A purebred Beefalo contains 34 to 37.49 per centum bison , and if used on domestic cattle , will produce a halfblood Beefalo containing 17 percent or more bison .

Note : Any fauna comprise 17 pct or more bison will give you the intercrossed vigor and nutritional time value that you are look for .
