A Visit to Bee Blessed Acres

From boring lawn to flower paradise

Thirty year ago I married a professional beekeeper , who put honey in 55 - gallon barrels instead of bear , and affect from Whigham , Georgia , to Cozad , Nebraska . From our telephone courtship I recognize that my husband was very proud of his Bluegrass Country lawn , which I discovered lost in a sea of alfalfa on my one trip north before we were married . River rock was his foundation planting of selection , and for a couple of years I thought that might be the secure choice in such cold ; however , one Clarence Day I was exhort to step off the back deck and push my shovel into the Bluegrass Region . finally my married man was advance me to hold back killing it all ! After our kids were grown I became a Master Gardener and enjoyed learning and volunteer so much I have kept at it for twenty years . Now my garden covers several of our Bee Blessed Acres .

My giving nonstarter was an attempted remembering garden for our girl under our Scotch pine windbreak . The athirst cervid and the wry nuance totally defeated me . I have lost many smaller battle as well , but I just be intimate digging and planting , so in meter I developed the sunny perennial garden I had always dreamed of with my hubby ’s bluegrass for line inside the split - rail fence . Less maintenance and less water characterize the prairie - alike plantings farther from our household . Shade dominates part of our matured garden , as some have accuse me of seek to re - create Georgia woodlands .

Now we are betray and moving to Oklahoma . I go for to begin a new garden there as I see about a new gardening geographical zone and a new sentence of life history at age 71 .
