Today , Jennifer James is partake in her broken - cost , educational garden with us .
I populate in Lafayette , La. With our live summer , I had an above - ground pool . When no one was using it anymore and it became a tussle to keep up , I tore down the deck and reused the wood to make garden box . Everything I used was repurposed . The compost came from a local compost facility — for free ! I spend $ 200 on some good topsoil . My germ were return to me from family and friends .
I have an early find out childcare programme in my house , so of course , we made it a learning experience ! The children helped to set the seeds and care for the vegetable and herbaceous plant . Their favorite part was running out to the garden to find vegetable ready to be picked and wipe out impudent off the plant ! We planted tomatoes , green beans , cucumbers , pumpkin ( which take off in the spring but died during our hot summertime ) , clavus , squash , and zucchini .

We set everything from seed so we could learn patience ? . There were lots of flowers , as we love all the dirt ball and birds flying around us ! These are jumbo zinnias(Zinnia elegans , annual ) .
It ’s early spring in this picture , and everything is growing jubilantly . We have two arches in the resort area , one entering into the garden and one entering into the playground area .
A little later in the spring , crocosmias(Crocosmiasp . , Zones 6–9 ) were blooming beautifully .

Concord grapeshot have been trained to grow around our service department . This yr we made jelly , with a total of seven jars . The kiddy did not wish it as much as I did because the colour was not the usual brilliant purpleness . My family line and I enjoyed it very much ! I used my toper , and it was so dewy-eyed .
A locust ( cicada ) on the live oak tree . I sleep together this picture , as the resurrection fern(Pleopeltis polypodioides , Zones 6–9 ) in the background was just resurrected with a previous day ’s rain . Resurrection fern is called that because if it gets ironic , it turns brown and appear dead , but when rain turn back , the suddenly - wait fronds turn green again , seemingly resurrecting from the dead !
Best banana tree ever !

Cucumis sativus , green bean , snap pea , sunflower , and lots of marigold to avail with the unwanted insect . Everything is in full golf shot in the summer !
